Cabins Built from Cedar and Character
Everyone lives in cabins—substantial wood cottages with electricity. There are bathroom facilities (we call them "biffies") in all the cabins. Our cabins are not hotel rooms — they are something more valuable: Warm, character-filled spaces that carry a wealth of Algonquin Park history. The true luxury here is outside: the rare gift of genuine wilderness and stillness. Each cabin accommodates a mix of bunk and single beds, with private en-suite bathrooms. Electricity throughout. No Wi-Fi, by design. This is the authentic Tamakwa experience: unplugged, unhurried, and quietly extraordinary.
The Traditional Camp Experience
Nearly a Century of History
Camp Tamakwa has been a summer camp haven since 1936, offering adventure, tradition, and a strong sense of community to generations of campers. The cabins your guests will sleep in have housed generations of people who came to this exact stretch of Algonquin Park wilderness. There is a weight of history here — a patina of experience — that no new-build resort can replicate.
When we call them "Traditional Camp Cabins," we mean it sincerely. The simplicity inside is intentional — it draws your attention outward, to the lake, the forest, and the sky overhead after dark.

What to Expect
Bunk & Single Beds
The majority of our cabins exclusively feature traditional bunk beds, with a select few offering a mix of single and bunk layouts. There are a select few cabins with double and queen size beds.
Electricity & Plumbing
Every cabin is fully equipped with electricity and hot water.
Private En-Suite Bathrooms
Each cabin is equipped with its own private bathroom.
Common Areas & Fire Pits
Beautifully situated gathering spaces across the property — for late nights, quiet mornings, and everything in between.
Screened Windows
The forest air drifts in. The wilderness stays outside where it belongs.
Intentionally Offline
No Wi-Fi. No television. A rare and welcome reprieve. Most cellular networks work in Algonquin for those guests who require it.
What to Bring
Please bring your own bedding, towels, and personal essentials — the cabins provide the mattress and the rest is up to you. Bedding can be provided for guests upon request.
